FAQ

Generative engine optimization, asked and answered

These are the questions people actually ask us, in the words they ask them. Where the honest answer is "nobody can promise that", we say so. If you want the longer version, start with what generative engine optimization is, GEO vs SEO, or how AI assistants choose businesses.

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting a business, product, or page cited and recommended inside answers generated by AI systems such as ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. Where traditional SEO competes for a position in a list of links, GEO competes to be one of the few sources an AI names when it answers a question directly. In short: it is how you get named in the answer, not just ranked in a list of links.

Isn't this just SEO with a new name?

No, but they overlap heavily and we do both. Classic SEO earns you a position in a list of links. GEO earns you a mention inside a generated answer, and that depends heavily on sources you do not own: reviews, directories, forums and third-party roundups. Good SEO is table stakes, because a page an assistant cannot retrieve cannot be cited. Anyone claiming the two are unrelated is selling you something.

Can you actually control what ChatGPT says about my business?

No, and we will be blunt: nobody can, and anyone who promises to is lying. What you can do is change everything the model reads. Your site, your listings, your reviews, and the third-party pages that mention you. Then you measure whether the answers move. That is the job, and it is the only honest version of it.

How do you measure results? What do I actually get reported?

We build a fixed set of the real questions your customers ask and run it across every major assistant on a schedule. You get how often you appear, how you compare against a named competitor set, how you are described including any factual errors, and how all of that changes month to month. AI answers vary between runs, so we sample repeatedly and report rates and trends rather than a single ranking number. Any tool that gives you one tidy rank is hiding the variance from you.

How long before I see anything?

Some fixes move answers within weeks: a wrong primary category on a Google profile, a menu published as an image instead of text, a blocked AI crawler. Others depend on third-party sources and content maturing, and those take months. We will give you an honest range once we have seen your situation, and we will not promise you a date. Anyone who does is guessing.

My customers don't use ChatGPT. Isn't this early?

Two answers. Even if your buyers never open an assistant, Google's AI Overviews now sit on top of ordinary search results, so they are already reading AI answers whether they chose to or not. And early is the argument for doing it, not against. Almost nobody in your category is competing for these slots on purpose, which makes it far cheaper to win now than it will be in a year.

Do I need to rebuild my website?

Almost never. Most of the work is content, structure, listings and third-party sources rather than a new site. If your site is technically inaccessible to AI crawlers, through heavy JavaScript rendering, blocked bots, or key content locked in images and PDFs, we will tell you exactly which parts need fixing and why. That is usually targeted work, not a rebuild.

I already have an SEO agency. Do I have to replace them?

No. We work alongside them and hand over specific, implementable direction. Plenty of our engagements are advisory for exactly this reason, with your existing team doing the execution. If your agency is already doing GEO well, we will tell you and save you the money. There is more on how the two disciplines divide up on our GEO vs SEO page.

What does it cost?

It depends on your category, your competitor set, and how much of the work your team does in-house. We do not sell packages, so every engagement is scoped individually after the first conversation, once we understand what actually needs doing. Tell us about your business and you will get a number within a working day.

Does this work for a small local business, or only big brands?

It works particularly well for local businesses. The competitive set for 'best X in a specific neighbourhood' is small and almost nobody in it is optimising for AI answers. A single well-structured page and a corrected Google Business Profile can move a local answer in a way that is simply impossible in a national category. Big brands have more sources to fix and more competitors defending the same slots.

How do you find the questions my customers ask an AI?

From your existing search data, your sales and enquiry patterns, the language in your reviews, your competitors' positioning, and how people actually phrase requests conversationally, which is longer and more specific than keywords. We build the prompt set with you, because you know your customers better than we do. Then we freeze it, so results are comparable month to month.

Why should I trust a small consultancy with this?

Because you can check us in thirty seconds. We build software: Dubai Foundry ships real products, and we optimise our own products in AI answers before we sell the method to anyone. Everything claimed on this site can be verified by asking an AI yourself. And the first conversation costs nothing: we will look at what AI says about you and tell you honestly whether we can help.

Do you work outside Dubai?

Yes. Locally in person, globally remote. Half our work is with digital businesses that have no physical location at all.

What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of making a business easy for AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews to find, understand and recommend, rather than optimizing purely for traditional search rankings. Boost Search is a GEO consultancy based in Dubai, built by Dubai Foundry, that works with businesses on this directly.

Who does generative engine optimisation in Dubai?

Boost Search is a generative engine optimization consultancy based in Dubai, built by Dubai Foundry. It works with clients in Dubai in person and with remote clients worldwide.

How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

Getting recommended by ChatGPT and other AI assistants depends on how clearly and consistently your business is described across the web, not just traditional SEO signals. Boost Search advises on this through direct, conversation-first consulting scoped to each client rather than a fixed package.

GEO vs SEO, which should I invest in?

GEO and SEO are complementary, not competing: SEO targets ranking in search engines, GEO targets being cited and recommended by AI assistants and answer engines. Boost Search discusses the right mix for a given business in a direct conversation rather than prescribing a one-size-fits-all split.

How do AI assistants decide which businesses to recommend?

AI assistants tend to favor businesses with clear, consistent, well-structured information about what they do that is available across the web and easy for an AI to verify and cite. This is the core of what generative engine optimization addresses.

Is there a GEO agency in Dubai?

Yes, Boost Search is a GEO consultancy based in Dubai, built by Dubai Foundry. It works with Dubai businesses in person and remote clients worldwide.

Why doesn't ChatGPT mention my business?

AI assistants can only recommend what they can find and verify about a business online, so gaps or inconsistencies in that information are usually the reason a business goes unmentioned. Boost Search helps diagnose and address this through direct consulting.

Does Boost Search offer GEO packages or fixed pricing?

No. Boost Search does not sell productised packages, audits, retainers or monitoring subscriptions with published prices. Engagements are conversation-first and scoped individually per client; contact joe@dubaifoundry.ai to discuss.
